October 14, 2022 – Boston Bruins General Manager Don Sweeney announced the Opening Day Roster for the Providence Bruins.

The prospects “in the system” are:

Forwards – Joseph Abate, Samuel Asselin, John Beecher, James Greenway, Curtis Hall, Joona Koppanen, Vinni Lettieri, Fabian Lysell, Marc McLaughlin, Georgii Merkulov, Oskar Steen, and Luke Toporowski.

Defense – Jack Ahcan, Victor Berglund, Michael Callahan, Connor Carrick, Dan Renouf, Jacob Wilson, and Kai Wissman,

Goalkeepers – Kyle Keyser

October 6, 2022The following moves were announced today:

G Keith Kinkaid, F Joona Koppanen, F Vinni Lettieri and D Dan Renouf were placed on waivers for the purpose of assignment to the Providence Bruins.

Defenseman Jack Ahcan was assigned to Providence along with forwards John Beecher, Kyle Keyser, Fabian Lysell & Marc McLaughlin.

These moves leave forwards Jack Studnicka and Jakub Lauko as the remaining “prospects” on the Boston roster. Matt Filipe has not been moved but is currently on the injury list.

Steen, Woolf and Carrick, who were waived earlier this week have cleared and will report to Providence.

October 5, 2022 – The Providence Bruins began their training camp on Monday, October 3. There is no information from the club about whether any of the sessions are open to the public, although the team did post some pictures and a video on their official instagram and twitter feeds.

Mark Divver did report on his twitter feed that several players destined for the Bruins’ ECHL affiliate Maine Mariners were present for one of the early workouts.

“Invites from Maine Mariners at Providence Bruins camp: Nick Master, Reid Stefanson, Keltie Jeri-Leon, Marc-Olivier Duquette, Nate Kallen and Mitch Fossier.”

All Mariners practices will be held at Troubh Ice Arena in Portland, ME and are open to the public, free of charge. The full schedule is below:

TUE Oct. 11 9:45 AM
WED Oct. 12 10:00 AM
THU Oct. 13 9:45 AM
FRI Oct. 14 10:00 AM

The Mariners were able to put a post together so fans could be kept informed about camp. How about you Providence Bruins?

10/4/2022 – The Boston Bruins announced several transactions as they get closer to their opening night roster configuration.

Three players have been placed on waivers in order to assign them to the Providence Bruins.  Forward Oskar Steen and defensemen Connor Carrick and Nick Wolff will have to clear league waivers unclaimed before they can suit up for the AHL team. It’s unlikely any of the three will be claimed although Steen may draw some interest.

Steen is on a two-year, one-way $800k contract through the 2023/24 season. Both Carrick and Wolff are on one-year, two-way deals with Woolf becoming an RFA and Carrick a UFA at the end of this season.

In addition, three other defensemen, Victor Berglund, Mike Callahan and Kai Wissmann, are exempt from waivers and have been directly assigned to Providence.

UPDATE 9/18/2022: Confirmed he’s headed to UMass.

9/15/2022 – Lulea, Sweden newspaper Norrbottens-Kuriren reports in an interview with Locmelis that he is probably headed to the US following this season.

Following his draft this summer by the Bruins, and his participation with Latvia at the World Juniors in Edmonton, word was circulating that he would leave Lulea J20 and play this season with Youngstown in the USHL. While that turned out to be wrong there was also a report that he would return to Lulea this year but attend college (Northern Michigan) in the US next year.

Although the above linked story is behind a paywall, Swedish outlet Hockey Sverige has reported on that report.

Still with us? LOL. The translation includes quotes from Locmelis saying that he is seriously considering UMass in Amherst, Massachusetts. “They (Lulea) have a good team, and I will probably only get to play in the fourth (line) if I choose to stay here in Luleå. I think it would have been better for me to play in one of the first two (lines) in a university team, …”

Stay tuned.

9/13/2022 – Somewhere between the 1st period of Oshawa’s preseason game in Guelph on Friday and the rematch at home on Sunday Brett Harrison was injured.

UPDATE: Harrison broke his fibula in September 9 game at Guelph. GM Roger Hunt estimates he could be back by October 23.

Although scoring late in the first period of Friday’s game he was scratched for the return match on Sunday. Then today when the Bruins announced their rookie camp roster Harrison’s name was listed with a double asterisk noting “**Injured/Will not attend rookie or main camp.”

There are few confirmed reports of the exact nature of his injury but it is a tough break heading into a season where he might have battled for a spot at making his professional debut.

Harrison signed his entry level contract with Boston this summer.
